DT7816 High Performance ARM Module for Embedded Applications

The DT7816 is a high performance, System on Module (SOM) for data acquisition, featuring an embedded Cortex-A8

1GHz ARM processor. For use in embedded data acquisition and control applications, this real-time module is an

open-source Linux platform with extensive examples using TI's SDK Essentials package.

Kvaser J1939-13 Type II Connector is Now Available

Alerting all those involved in industrial and heavy-duty applications. Kvaser has now released a Leaf Light HS v2 J1939-13

Type II (EAN 00915-8) with the characteristic green-coloured diagnostic socket.

The 9-pin J1939-13 (Type II) compliant CAN connector is used for off-board connection to a vehicles SAE J1939

communication network and supports both 250 Kbps and 500 Kbps.

The SAE approved the specification for this off-board diagnostic connector in 2011.  

However, as the Type 1 socket is being phased out, we are seeing more and more customers "going green".

The Leaf Light HS v2 J1939-13 Type II provides a simple way of connecting a PC with the on-board computer of any J1939 compliant vehicle or industrial system. Get diagnostic data by means of its USB 2.0 connector and a 9-pin J1939-13 (Type II) compliant CAN connector, which is colour-coded in green and su[pports either 250 Kbps or 500 Kbps vehicle networks.


The Leaf Light HS v2 J1939-13 Type II belongs to Kvaser's Leaf Light product range, which has made its name as the work-horse of the CAN interface world by offering a reliable, low cost means of connecting any CAN network to a PC or mobile computer.

CSM The new generation: PTMM evo

PT MiniModules (PTMM evo) allow high-precision temperature measurements with PT100 and PT1000 RTD elements.

PTMM evo is a further development of the PTMM series and available in two versions with four or eight measurement channels. PTMM evo thus expands CSM's product portfolio with modules for high-precision temperature measurements for use in

distributed measurement applications in test drives and test benches.

A measurement data rate of 100 Hz per channel, an extended operating temperature range of -40 C to +125 C and last but not least a reduced power consumption make these modules an excellent choice, especially for measurement applications using sensors with short response times. To achieve best possible accuracy results, PTMM evo

modules can be parameterized by means of sensor-specific PT coefficients (R0, A, B and C). This allows the use of

low-accuracy PT sensors if required.


Signal output module OUTMM

The OUT MiniModule is a signal output module for generating analog variables. The OUT MiniModule (OUTMM) provides configurable output signals in accordance with a value that has been pre-defined by CAN bus messages. Typical use cases

for an OUTMM are test benches with analog display units and actuators as well as the simulation of parameters in early development stages (HIL testing).


OUTMM provides the following output parameters (galvanically isolated):




  Duty cycle/PWM

  Digital signals

Thus, the module can simulate not yet existing control units and output signals to actuators.

It also provides options to transfer available CAN signals to test benches with only analog measurement inputs. This means, a CAN signal which - due to a lack of digital signal inputs - cannot be directly fed into a test bench will be first transmitted to an OUTMM and converted into an analog signal.

This analog signal will then be transmitted to the analog signal input of the test bench.


Key features

Depending on the device version, an OTUMM features four or eight galvanically isolated output channels.

The output channels are controlled by freely definable CAN bus messages and offer high accuracy in every operating mode.

Each channel can be configured individually with a refresh rate of up to 1 kHz. OUTMM modules are supported by the data acquisition software vMeasure CSM.




DJB Instruments Specialist cable assemblies Anything is possible!

In the world of sensors and instrumentation there are many different types of sensor,

both static and dynamic, in addition to an almost endless array of applications and in

a vast majority of these installations a cable is still required to connect the sensor to

the data acquisition, recording or analysis system. There is an almost inevitable drive towards wireless communication and as with most enlightened sensor manufacturers

DJB Instruments UK Ltd are working on the development of a new generation of

miniature wireless Piezoelectric accelerometers, however that is not the focus of

this article. Despite the wireless world there will always be applications and challenges

that require the use of cables and wherever possible it falls to the manufacturer to be flexible and offer solutions, however novel, rather than the standard response It cant be done.


In the last few months DJB have been involved in a variety of applications where a completely new cable has been designed and manufactured to meet the unique needs of their customer. In one requirement, the customers challenge was to measure vibration in an oil and gas application, under water, using three biaxial accelerometers, each required its own ground connection. Due to the installation restrictions and the need for long cable runs there was a limited space available to get all six signals and three ground wires to the data acquisition system, not something any standard cable is configured to handle. DJB proposed a unique 9 core accelerometer signal cable with an outer diameter of just 3.6mm (ET36), each core was individually coloured for identification purposes and spliced to the standard 4 core cable used with DJBs AT/14 general purpose triaxial accelerometers. The cable was produced in just 4 weeks to meet the demanding delivery schedule, before heading to the USA to be installed in a stainless steel tube and returning to DJB for splicing and connector fitting.


Another project was slightly different but again required a unique solution. This time it did not involve accelerometers and DJB worked solely as the cable assembly supplier utilising its 40-year experience of the transmission of sensor signals to offer an efficient and neat solution. The challenge: To attach multiple charge devices to a data acquisition system via a single cable to avoid complex cabling and the risk of cable tangling when using 20 to 30m cables. For this application DJB proposed a 6 core low noise cable with an anti-microphonic low noise layer to avoid triboelectric noise and an overall diameter of just 3.0mm (LT30). This was the first time DJB had ever proposed such a cable with excellent results and a uniquely simple and neat solution. Neill Ovenden, DJBs Managing Director saidWe have always tried to continue to offer a bespoke service and our consumption of more standard sensor cables is such we have excellent relationships with cable manufacturers which means we can be very supportive of special requests. Other recent projects have involved bespoke Zero Halogen cables for the rail industry, so we are always being kept on our toes.

The ProDAQ 6100 LXI function card carrier provides access to up to four ProDAQ function cards through a standard Gigabit Ethernet interface. Its small form factor and connectivity combined with the flexibility of the ProDAQ function cards enables users to create multifunction instruments where applications need them. By simply connecting the ProDAQ 6100 to a network and using the standard software drivers or the embedded Web server, users can integrate it into an application.

The ProDAQ 6100 is a fully compliant LXI Class B device (Class A with the optional LXI trigger interface), providing a standardized Gigabit Ethernet interface, a synchronization API, and support for the IEEE 1588 protocol. The IEEE 1588 protocol allows execution of triggered functions on devices equivalent to those available over GPIB, a synchronization of the system, and data acquisition clocks over the Ethernet accurate within about 20 nanoseconds. The optional trigger interface allows users to connect LXI devices by a physical daisy chain or star configuration. It is based on an 8-channel multipoint low-voltage differential signaling (LVDS) system that allows devices to be sources and/or receivers of trigger and clock signals. Using a wired-OR configuration allows multiple devices to respond to a trigger signal or share a common clock.

The ProDAQ 6100 can be equipped with a high-precision ProDAQ 3202 voltage reference plug-in module to allow the calibration of function cards on-the-fly. Two standard 2 mm connectors on the rear panel allow the testing of an installed voltage reference plug-in module or the input of an external reference signal.

New products of Guildline released during 2016

9340-4T Four-Terminal Decade Box and RTD Simulator.
This new series goes down to an amazing 1
μΩ per step and incorporates a unique 4-Wire design. This is an ideal solution for primary calibration labs that dont have a workload to justify the investment in primary resistance standards for resistance values < 0.1 Ω. Many secondary labs, and smaller primary labs, are interested in this product because it allows them to extend their resistance calibration to lower values for a very economical price. Guildline is now selling as many of these new Four-Terminal Decade Boxes as our traditional Two-Terminal Decade Boxes.

5600 Fluid Baths in 50L, 75L and 100L Sizes Based on over 50 years of proven Guildline oil baths, this new series incorporates features not seen in Oil/Fluid Baths from any other Manufacturer! Customers are very happy with this new bath because of performance and the ease of use which is provided by the Windows 10 Tablet. The new 5600 Fluid Baths are also electrically and acoustically the quietest baths available in the market. Customers really appreciate the fact that these baths essentially create no acoustic noise which makes calibration technicians very happy. In fact Guildline had to add a LED light so customers can visually confirm that the baths are operating because they cant hear them. These baths are also designed for salt water use by Oceanography customers so will last for decades.


In addition to the Fluid Baths, Guildline has redesigned new AC/DC Oil Based Resistors.

This NEW 7330 Series is designed for optimal performance in Oil baths and is the preferred replacement for older 9330 Oil Based Resistors. These 7330 Oil Based Resistors have AC and DC Performance for use with any temperature or resistance system. You will note that this design also incorporates the new black on red look and provides world-leading performance specifications. With these new oil based AC resistors, we now offer a complete solution for temperature measurements.


NEW 6640T Temperature Bridge (below right), 3210 Thermometry Adapter (below left) and associated NEW 6645T Temperature Measurement System (not shown)! This is a completely redesigned temperature bridge incorporating new patents for the toroid and other hardware designed to optimize temperature measurements. With this new design, please note that existing 6622 Bridges cannot be upgraded to the new 6640T model. This new Thermometry Bridge matches the 5 μK performance of the older ASL/Wika F900 models, but with almost no latency and a modern touch screen user interface. In addition to a fast real-time processor allowing measurements to be made in less than a second, each 6640T comes with an additional built-in Windows 10 Computer and large touch screen. The 3210 Thermometry Adaptor is designed to allow easy connection for multiple PRTs or othertemperature probes. It has the unique capability to provide pre-heat on a per channel basis with a user specified current from 20 μA to 150 mA.


NEW 7220 Power Analyzer This instrument will finally ship in 2017. It has taken Guildline four years to develop this world-leading power analyzer and cost us a million dollars! It provides the best uncertainties of any commercial power analyzer for noisy signals, and is a class 0.003 instrument (i.e. 30 ppm). The 7220 has the unique ability to provide current, voltage, power, and phase angle measurements on a period by period basis detailed analysis that no other power analyzer can provide! Equally important it provides the industry leading phase angle capability with phase angle measurement < 1 μRad. Other key functionality includes harmonic analysis and a built-in Oscilloscope. The new 7220 also has a built in Windows 10 Computer and large touch screen to provide an easy to use, modern user interface.


Guildline is also announcing a NEW 7810 Wideband Transconductance Amplifier.

Besides providing the best in uncertainties and functionalities available from any Transconductance Amplifier, the 7810 is also an excellent Clarke Hess 8100 replacement. This new Transconductance Amplifier can provide output frequencies up to 1 MHz for lower currents and has a higher output voltage compliance than the old Clarke Hess 8100 models. The new 7810 Transconductance Amplifier will be available late in 2017 and Guildline has already pre-sold over 80 models. This is the latest in wideband current technology providing a 100 A, 100 kHz source. As with other new Guildline instruments, the 7810 has a built-in Windows-10 computer with large touch screen and graphical user interface.
