Data Translation introduced the Series DT9857 for high channel count IEPE/ICP sensor applications.


The DT9857 is a high accuracy dynamic signal acquisition module for noise, vibration, and acoustic measurements. Eight or sixteen, 24-bit, IEPE (ICP®) sensor inputs are synchronized with a tachometer input, two measurement counters, and a general purpose counter/timer to provide data streams that are matched in time, for field or laboratory use. Two stimulus D/A outputs, each 32-bit resolution, and an 8-bit digital output port are available for dynamic waveform generation and control. This rugged, compact module, available either as an OEM board or steel-encased module, connects via USB making it ideal for many measurement applications.

The key features of that product are:

  • 8 or 16 simultaneous IEPE analog inputs
  • Up to 32 simultaneous and synchronized IEPE inputs by using only 2 x DT9857-16 and only 2 USB cables
  • 24 bit resolution with a maximum sampling rate of 105.4 kHz per channel
  • Programmable input signal conditioning with IEPE (4mA) on/off, AC or DC and +/-1V or +/-10V input range
  • 4mA current source now with 20V compliance voltage
  • Integrated anti-aliasing filters; automatically set by sampling rate
  • 2 waveform analog outputs, 32 bit and 216 kHz maximum clock rate for very low THD
  • 1 tacho input for up to 32V signals, measured simultaneous with analog inputs
  • 2 counter inputs to measure phase information to the next samples, measured simultaneous with analog inputs
  • 1 general purpose counter/timer input, measured simultaneous with analog inputs
  • 8 digital inputs supported in analog input data stream for simultaneous measurements
  • 8 status digital outputs usable as status or dynamic digital outputs (synchronized with analog outputs)
  • Hardware support for pre- and post-trigger data acquisition by using start trigger, reference trigger and user defined samples for post trigger
  • Sync bus support to synchronize multiple DT9857-modules or even other modules such as DT9837A/B/C, DT9847 or DT9838.
  • External 5 VDC power supply required
  • Supported by QuickDAQ



Kvaser CAN FD controller is now available for testing


Kvaser has developed a new CAN with Flexible Data-Rate (CAN FD) controller in a step towards providing CAN FD compatible CAN interfaces and data loggers in its product range. As the standard is yet to be ratified, the device has been implemented as an FPGA so that the firmware can be updated as the standard evolves. The FPGA will be made available to companies who would like to partner to provide Kvaser-compatible software for the new standard.
CAN FD increases CAN data throughput by increasing the number of bytes in each CAN-frame (from 8 to 64 bytes), making the CAN-frames longer. To compensate, CAN FD enables data to be sent at a higher bit-rate. When building CAN FD systems and sub-systems, the higher bit-rate demands that more information is known about the physical layer. For example, CAN FD messages demand a common Time Quanta and that the location of the sampling point be known. Kvaser has implemented additional functions into its CAN FD controller logic that can be used to provide information on how to configure the CAN bits to maximise bit-rate in existing CAN bus layouts.

Today, Kvaser’s FPGA controller can be used to perform high speed sampling of the CAN / CAN FD bus, including detection of short glitches that are normally filtered out by CAN logic. Such glitches provide an early warning of potential problems in the CAN bus communication. The CAN message’s high resolution also facilitates precise location of every edge in the CAN-frame – information that can be analysed to find out the oscillator tolerance of the sender.

DJB Launch New VS1 Handheld Vibration Meter Kit

DJB Instruments UK Ltd has announced the launch of an all new handheld vibration meter the VS1. Available as a complete kit including palm size meter, cables, vibration probe, magnet and worldwide charger the VS1 replaces the outgoing VT2 which was originally developed by the company’s founder Don Birchall. The VS1 offers a range of upgraded features over the VT2 to enable vibration engineers to monitor and analyse a variety of applications and scenarios.

Features include:

• Storage of up to 100 data readings, all time stamped.
• Full colour LCD Display which can be seen even in bright sunlight.
• Rechargeable Lithium-ion battery in addition to a worldwide charger.
• RMS, peak, peak-peak, crest factor readings in acceleration, velocity or displacement modes.
• Bearing condition mode (acceleration and velocity).
• Rubber protective jacket to protect in harsh environment use.
• Adaptive amplifier for high accuracy.
• AC output.
• Audio output to enable the user to listen to the vibration being measured in isolation.


Guildline have released several new products


5600 Fluid/Oil Bath


The 5600 Fluid/Oil bath was developed in response to multiple customer requests. Competing products simply do not match the performance, quality and durability of older Guildline baths. There are many Guildline customers who have baths that are 20-30 years old and need replacing in the next couple of years. The new 5600 Bath ranges in temperature from -5 °C to 55 °C, with best stability of 1 °mK. These baths come in 50, 75 and 100 liter sizes and can be operated with oil, water, or salt water. For oceanography customers the 5600 Fluid Bath is the only commercial bath that is designed to work with salt water.


6624 3000A DC CT

Guildline's 6624CT-3000 High Current DC Transformer is the most accurate High Current Measurement System commercially available for currents up to 3000A. This system is highly unique and was developed as competitors provide misleading specifications and state that their high current products outperform Guildline's. So to prove our DC High Current Systems work much better than the competition we developed the 6624CT to measure the output accuracy (uncertainty) and stability of high current sources.

How good is it?  Published NMI papers show that Guildline’s 6624CT-3000 is accurate within < 5 ppm and that our 6623A Precision Current Sources are stable to 4 ppm at currents of 1000A and higher.


9230A High Value


Guildline modified existing 9230A-1000 and 9230A-1500 shunts to provide lower uncertainties and is also shipping new 9230A-3000 and 9230A-5000 shunts. We are currently building a 9230A-10,000 ampere shunt. These newly designed shunts for currents at and above 1000A are the best performing DC shunts in the world. Major DC power supply companies use and explicitly specify Guildline 9230A shunts for calibration.


Monarch comes with Track-It™ Data Loggers: RFID Temp and Temp/Humidity

Track-It™ RFID Data Loggers are battery powered stand-alone compact devices that record from 22.5 hours to 337.5 days of temperature or temperature and humidity data. The wireless RFID technology makes it ideally suited for use in supply chain monitoring applications. The compact water resistant (IP65) enclosure contains an RFID antenna which allows the unit to be configured and data transferred wirelessly.  

These loggers can be affixed to the inside of a shipping carton and scanned without opening the carton. This gives full access to data without sacrificing the integrity of your package contents. Use an Android device with Near Field Communication and the free Track-It™ Android application to quickly scan a package to determine if there are any alarms. If alarms are present, the data can be quickly downloaded and viewed on your Android device or you can choose to email it directly from your device for immediate review at another location. Data can also be downloaded and reviewed using the optional RFID docking station and free Windows based Track-It™ Software. Purchase an optional high temperature battery to extend the temperature range from 60°C (140°F) to 80°C (176°F). The highly reliable design and excellent performance at a reasonable price make this indispensable in many applications.


In the spot light: Wayne Kerr Precision Magnetics Analyzer 3260B

At the design stage of component development it is vitally important to understand how the component performs under different operating conditions. This might include operation at diverse frequencies, AC drive levels or DC bias currents.
The 3260B Precision Magnetics Analyzer can plot any of the measurement functions, such as inductance (L) or impedance (Z), (including secondary term) against frequency, AC drive level or DC bias current. Frequency sweeps within the range 20 Hz to 3 MHz can be selected. There is a choice of either linear or logarithmic frequency displays. 3260B is especially suitable for measuring parameters on telecom transformers.
The selected parameter and its secondary value are presented graphically. AC drive levels can be set between 1 mV and 10 V. DC bias current can be set from 1 mA to 1 A internally. Using external 3265B 25 A DC Bias Units bias currents can be set to a maximum of 125 A.

With the dramatic growth of PCs connected to the telephone system for Internet access has come the requirement to measure Insertion Loss (IL) and Return Loss (RL) of line matching transformers. The 3260B Precision Magnetics Analyzer not only measures IL and RL but the instrument also allows the user to enter the values for terminating resistance or impedance, if complex, and to select a damped network or blocking capacitor if required.
